5 Drugstore Pick-Me-Ups

January for me is usually the hardest month financially. It's when the greatest festive season is over and my pockets are empty from the Boxing Day and January sales. It can be quite a blues-y month, but a cheeky drugstore splurge always perks me up! Drugstore purchases are my favourite go-to for a pick me up since it doesn't leave me feeling too guilty and that I've burnt a hole in my pocket. So today I've included a few affordable beauty faves that you could pick up from the drugstore too!

I recently picked up the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer again - it used to be my go-to primer before I discovered the Benefit Porefessional. This one doesn't cover up pores as well as the Porefessional does but it still works wonders in providing a smooth base for foundation. The primer feels cooling and moisturising when I first apply it all over my face, and dries to a matte finish. My make up stays on longer when I'm wearing this, and it really works great for oil-control! This is definitely the best drugstore primer for me!

I've also been loving my Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser in Light - I've only just picked this up recently but feel like I can't live without it already..! It definitely brightens up my face and makes me look so much more awake. I always apply this before my foundation and blend everything together with a Beauty Blender.

I've also been using my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation a lot more recently. So many people have raved about this foundation as being one of the best drugstore foundations in the market and I can't agree more! This is lightweight and has a semi-matte finish with medium coverage. It does have quite a strong fruity scent which goes away after application - I personally love the scent but I know some might be quite put off by this..!

I've also recently rediscovered my Sleek Blush in Rose Gold. I've been looking rather pale during the cold winter months so this is perfect for days when I want a bit of colour on my cheeks. This blush is a rosy, warm pink that has just the right amount of golden shimmer which gives such a nice glow to the skin. Its packaging is compact and literally so... sleek. Sleek blushes are really pigmented as well, so for such an affordable price you're definitely getting your worth with this product!

Oh, my beloved Maybelline Lash Sensational. I can't believe I've been missing out for so long! This is very quickly taking over my holy grail mascara, the Lancôme Hypnôse. And that's saying A LOT because I've been loyal to Hypnôse for a good two years now! I've tried a ton of other mascaras and nothing came close, but with the Maybelline - my lashes look long, dark and curly for the longest time. The mascara is smudge and waterproof, so it doesn't budge for as long as you wear them. I feel like this is my best 2016 discovery so far! (But of course... It's only January)

I'd love to hear what you think about these products if you've tried them!

With love,
Kayleigh x

  1. I have to agree as well, the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundations are definitely up there as one of the best drug store foundations I have tried, especially as a daily make up base. They are of such great quality. I am also loving that Maybelline mascara as well. I feel like Maybelline really nail it in the mascara department and are one of the best drugstore brands for mascaras! x

  3. I've been really wanting to try the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum as I've heard soo many good reviews, but also a few saying it's not great for oily skin which really wouldn't suit me! Love the Lash Sensational!

    1. I've heard the same thing too - but you never know until you try it! I've heard that the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (not the serum one) might be better for oily skin but I just love how the Healthy Mix Serum stays in place all day for me! It might also be because the colder and drier weather these days naturally makes my skin less oily so it's perfect! :) xx
